Thanks to you all for supporting the Stingrays today. We did sneak in a great game before the rain really hit. I’m proud, again, of their effort. I saw some great ball movement down the line. The boys are really starting to come together as friends and teammates. They have a lot of years left playing together. Aaron was awarded match player by Orca captain. His solid middle play allowed Laird to get around the corner a few times. Aaron capped his day with three tries. Freddie also had a tremendous game. By far his best. He had more tackles than I had seen. Multiple times he’d move from tackle to tackle. He also found a lot of balls and set up some good extended play because of it. Gavin was in a new position today due to the loss of Duke to the flu. He did awesome filling in at prop and extending to protect our scrum-half. We all wanted him to score today. He got close twice, and each time selflessly gave up the ball assisting on scores. Next game Gavin! Aiden worked the middle well today too. He really is a force when carrying the ball. He dragged multiple defenders resulting in lanes opening for runners. I saw him and Aaron do a few really cool plays off each other ultimately getting the ball outside. Sebastian found the corner once and was gone. He had his personal lowest scoring day, but I think was involved more in the scoring as scrum-half, our field general. It is up to him and Travis (the 1 st receiver) to set the lines, and they did. They are both starting to take proper leadership positions on the field and move the boys into positions. Laird once again was the horse. He touched down 6 tries. That kid is lighting. I’m also impressed with his tackling. He chases down ball carriers and puts a definitive stop to the play. He’s one kid you love having on your team. Callan had a big taste of rugby today. He got 3 attempts at the ball and made the best of one of them. I was proud that he went for it. He had a full 40 minutes.
His skills will continue to develop and I congratulate you all on the boys you are raising. Watching how well the older boys interact with, teach, and encourage Callan is really inspiring.
Another fantastic day of Rugby from our U 14’s. The stingrays had many linebreaks and seemingly all the balls bouncing our way in a dominating effort over orca.
Sam and Aaron had their usual fantastic match. Shawn did a great job in his first match as a prop. Numerous tries by Mark and Ryan sealed the win. Eric was having a fantastic match until his injury. We all wish him well.
We look forward to next week at SLO and our final match on March 24 in SB.
The lads had a banner first half with all cylinders hitting. The forwards: Zach, Gavin, Rhet, Jesus, Thomas had solid performances. Gavin disrupted a lot of ball in the lineouts. Dillon and Aaron dazzled the crowds with sharp and probing runs, and Tommy S started to find his groove as well.
But it was a tale of 2 halves.... In the second half, the Stingrays lost their form a bit and played to Ventura's strengths along with given up far too many penalties for not rolling away and talking back to the ref.(Which I am sure the coaches will discuss next practice.... ) We also had the first jersey torn in battle with Thomas C retiring jersey #3 with the solid rucking and forward play!! Fortunately, the Lads found their form and finished out the match with a couple of solid team tries working from one side of the field to the other!!
